Cette sculpture d’un éléphant stylisé témoigne d’une recherche formelle entre cubisme et figuration moderniste. Les volumes sont volontairement géométrisés, facettés, mais conservent la puissance tranquille et la monumentalité de l’animal. Les plis de la tête et des oreilles, traités de manière presque architecturale, révèlent une compréhension subtile des masses et du mouvement.

L’artiste néerlandais C. J. Verhoeff s’inscrit dans la lignée des sculpteurs européens de la seconde moitié du XXᵉ siècle qui explorent les tensions entre abstraction et nature. La surface du bronze, polie et animée d’une patine chaude, accentue le contraste entre les plans et souligne la force silencieuse du sujet.

L’œuvre repose sur un socle en marbre noir, dont la sobriété renforce la présence sculpturale de la pièce.
Exemple caractéristique du design animalier moderniste néerlandais des années 1980–1990, alliant rigueur géométrique et sensibilité plastique.
