A la fin des années 1970, le photographe Andy Sweet a commencé à décrire la culture juive de l'ancien monde.

Il a dressé un portrait incisif d'une culture dont la génération était en train de s'éteindre. Andy a choisi de photographier en couleur avec des teintes vives qui reflètent l'atmosphère chaude dans lesquelles sa communauté vivait.

Pour la "petite histoire"; les personnages immortalisés par l'objectif d'Andy Sweet sont des émigrés juifs européens, rescapés des camps de la seconde guerre mondiale. A l'issue du conflit, certains ont refait leur vie aux États-Unis. Certains couples sont arrivés en Floride à la recherche de soleil et de joie de vivre. Car toutes ces femmes et ces hommes au passé douloureux ont décidé de fêter la vie !

Installé en 1977 à South Beach, Andy Sweet à témoigner de l'histoire de ces personnages. Il est assassiné le 16 octobre 1982 sur une plage de la ville, alors âgé de 29 ans.
