Abdullah at-Khadim - Qur'an - Sultinate India - 1616

This fine quality manuscript leaf from the Holy book scribed by Abdullah at-Khadim in AD1616. The scripture within is from Chapter 56, Al-Waqiah (The Inevitable Event), v1-10 which sets out the three groups on Judgement Day, debasing some and elevating others. It describes a powerful shaking of the earth and mountains on the Day of Judgment, signifying a time of profound change and accountability. This event, described as a "mighty shaking" and a time when mountains will become "like scattered moths" or "dunes of sand", is not about preventing earthquakes but rather a depiction of the earth's final convulsion and the disclosure of all that has transpired upon it. It also contains the final verses 77-78 of the preceding chapter above the Chapter heading (shown in red) and commentary in the margin by a tutor, stating this is a very blessed scripture and one that should be read. The elaborate marginal decoration indicates the beginning of the are chapter. A number of different sized scripts are within the bands, alternated fro decorative effect, using large Thuluth and smaller Naskhi in between the thick bands. The format is very typical of a Sultinate India Qur'an of the period. The marginal Juz in the right margin mark the 30th and 35th verses of the Chapter. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
