Gorgeous Victorian brooch featuring a carnelian stone with turquoise accents, set in a decorative metal frame. The brooch has an oval carnelian cabochon as its base, with a curved gold-tone metal wire forming a smile-like shape across it. On one end of the "smile," there are a few small turquoise stones clustered together, resembling a flower or a small bunch. On the other end, there are one or two smaller turquoise stones. The carnelian stone has natural banding patterns and it’s in excellent condition, and the metal frame around it is ornate with floral and scroll-like designs and it’s in good condition, some visible metalwork has been done to the frames. Brooches like this were popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, often incorporating semi-precious stones and intricate metalwork. The combination of carnelian and turquoise was also a common design choice in antique jewellery, as the contrasting colours and textures create an appealing visual effect.
