Jewellery box - .925 silver - ORNATE SILVER WEDDING BOX
This sumptuously ornate Edwardian Sterling Silver box of serpentine shape with a pierced lid featuring a horse drawn carriage, carrying a couple with people waiving them on, on each side of the main scent there are wedding bells surrounded by ornate scrolls and trailing flowers. On the body there are doves, flowers and trailing leaves. The interior is gilded.
In excellent condition with no splits, dents or damage to the hinges. There are minor surface scratches on the underside, some light rubbing to the hallmarks and a little oxidation on the interior.
The box is hallmarked on the body and the lid. The marks are for London, 1903 and the maker William Comyns & Sons who had premises on Beak Street, off Regent Street.
The box measures approximately 18cm (7 1/8") long x 11cm (4 3/8") wide x 4.6cm (1 7/8") high and weighs 330g (11.64 oz).
All in all a very beautiful item that will grace any silver collection or would make a wonderful wedding gift.
