13 rode en witte strepen → de oorspronkelijke 13 koloniën die in 1776 onafhankelijk werden van Groot-Brittannië.

Blauw veld (union) met 48 sterren → de toenmalige 48 staten van de VS.

De 48-sterren vlag wapperde tijdens enkele van de meest ingrijpende momenten in de 20e eeuw:
	•	Eerste Wereldoorlog (1917–1918): Amerikaanse troepen vochten in Europa onder deze vlag.
	•	Interbellum (1919–1941): symbool van economische bloei, maar ook van de Grote Depressie in de jaren ’30.
	•	Tweede Wereldoorlog (1941–1945): Dit is dé vlag die Amerikaanse soldaten meenamen naar Europa en de Pacific. Denk aan de beroemde foto van de vlag op Iwo Jima (1945) – dat was een 48-sterren vlag.
	•	Begin Koude Oorlog (1947–1950’s): Marshallplan, Koreaanse Oorlog – allemaal onder déze vlag.

Het gaat hier om een museumaanmaak, dus niet gemaakt in 1943.
