Tektite is a natural, glass-like substance that forms when a meteorite hits the earth. High heat and energy of impact fuses the minerals on the ground. Moldavites were formed about 14.7 million years ago during the impact of a giant meteorite in the present-day Nördlinger Ries crater in southern Germany.  Currently, moldavites have been found in an area that includes Bohemia region in Czech Republic, Lusatia (Germany), and Waldviertel (Austria).  The name moldavite come from Moldau (Vltava) river in Bohemia.
