A well-carved Chinese greenish jade-coloured cylindrical soapstone or serpentine seal stamp crowned with a male Buddhist lion, Chinese Republic (1912-1949), ca 1925-1950, ca 7.8 cm. high, 5 cm. wide and 5 cm. deep. The so-called 'foo' dog with long mane curled up around a ball, the base with engraved decoration of a lotus flower amidst stylized waves above a circular cartouche containing a bat, a poem and a mountainous river landscape with birds flying over a sailing boat, a pagoda, a house, rocks, trees and plants, the underside with stylized ancient characters, in excellent condition.
