This rare ‘matte black’ Technics SL-5 Direct Drive Automatic Turntable System is fully functional and in good condition. The SL-5 is a full automatic direct-drive turntable and is operated by using the buttons on the front. There is also a cueing functionality, and a repeat functionality which when activated will automatically play the record again after ending. The needle is in very good condition and sounds great. The turntable automatically recognizes a 12” or 7” record and moves and lowers the tonearm accordingly. 7” records are automatically played at 45rpm, while 12” records are automatically played at 33rpm. Speed (rpm) selection (33/45) can also be done manually by using the switch right above the start and stop buttons. Track selection is done by moving the tone-arm through holding and releasing the start button. The casing is in overall nice condition and feels smooth while it shows signs of handling, most notably on top near the back of the unit as can be seen on photo 6, and on transparent part of the lid as seen on photo 15. The turntable comes with the power cable, the plug-in ground cable, audio cable, anti-static matt and rotatable 7” adapter. A printed photocopy of the user manual is provided. The turntable will be very carefully packaged in a strong box, multiple layers of bubble foam, airbags and other protective materials and with all loose parts secured, based on extensive experience in shipping vintage audio equipment.
