de cremaillere is een verstelbare haardhaak die werd gebruikt om kookpotten boven een open vuur te hangen,
waardoor de afstand tot het vuur en daarmee de kooktemperatuur kon worden geregeld.
het gesmede ijzer en het ontwerp duidt op een aanzienlijke leeftijd ,mogelijk varierend van de 16e eeuw tot recentere antieke periode. 
het object is gemaakt van hand gesmeed ijzer wat kenmerkend is voor historische gereedschappen van dit type.
