Sanzen-in Temple (三千院) - Ido Masao 井堂雅夫 (1945-2016) - Japan (No Reserve Price)

Item Description: This beautiful woodblock print by esteemed artist Masao Ido is part of the "Kyoto Hyakkei" (One Hundred Views of Kyoto) series, specifically from the "Rakuhoku Jūkkei" (Ten Views of Northern Kyoto) collection. The artwork is titled "Sanzen-in," showcasing the renowned Sanzen-in Temple in Kyoto’s Ohara district during the vibrant autumn season. Vivid red and golden maple leaves frame the traditional temple structure, while a wooden walkway draws the viewer into the peaceful, contemplative setting. Known for his ability to capture seasonal atmosphere and tranquility, Ido presents Sanzen-in as a serene and spiritual retreat nestled within nature. His use of delicate linework and gentle color gradients reflects a deep reverence for Kyoto’s cultural and natural heritage. Artist's Comment: Sanzen-in Temple Perched on a hilltop in the village of Ohara, deep in Kyoto's northern suburbs, stands Sanzen-in Temple, surrounded by imposing stone walls. Stalls catering to tourists line the entrance. Shibazuke pickles are particularly famous here. I love the atmosphere of Ohara and have created many works here before, but Ohara in the vibrant autumn colors is truly spectacular. Surrounded by countless trees ablaze with autumn colors, the serene presence of the Ojo Gokurakuin (Main Hall) always captivates me as a subject for my work. In this piece, I sought to express the Ojo Gokurakuin's presence by composing the painting from the perspective of the building in the foreground. Size: Approximately 36 cm × 26 cm Artist Profile: Masao Ido (井堂雅夫, 1945–2016) was a distinguished Japanese woodblock print artist celebrated for his evocative landscapes and refined depiction of traditional Japanese scenes, particularly of Kyoto. A disciple of Koho and Tokuriki Tomikichiro, Ido was instrumental in revitalizing the art of modern Japanese woodblock printing. His serene compositions, often portraying temples, gardens, and seasonal views, resonate with harmony and nostalgia. Today, his works are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of Japanese art worldwide. **PLEASE NOTE** Shipping Information: Items are shipped from Japan.
