Mexikanische Opale zeichnen sich durch ihre leuchtenden Gelb-, oder Orangetöne aus. Aufgrund seiner lebhaften Farbe wird der Edelstein auch „Feueropal“ genannt. Er ist eine der wenigen Opalarten, die erfolgreich facettiert werden können, da einige Exemplare sehr transparent sein können.
