KNSM - Timeless/Classique - Travel trunk

A vintage Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot-Maatschappij (KNSM) runk A rare early 20th-century wo0oden shipping trunk from the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot-Maatschappij (KNSM) the Royal Netherlands Steamship Company. This piece was originally used as a personal travel chest belonging to C. Tjon-Amon, ( a good friend of mine who sadly passed away a few years ago). Her name is still clearly handed-painted on the lid. The trunk still bears original KNSM travel labels, including: “Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoom-boot-Maatschappij” and its Spanish counterpart “ Cia Real Holandesa de Vapores”- reflecting the company’s international routes between the Netherlands and South America Carribbean. A partly legible destination tag listing the ship “Stuyvesant” and port Georgetown, Guyana – a known KNSM route during the colonial trade era The company’s distinctive sailing ship emblem, printed in yellow on turquoise paper, still visible despite age wear. An additional K.N.S.M. No 6 label and fragments of a circular Royal Netherlands Steamship Co. emblem add to the authenticity and patina of this well travelled piece. The trunk shows the honest wear. Scuffs, and aged surface expected from decades of maritime use, but remains structurally solid and rich in character. The metal latch is still intact. A Genuine Maritime Artefact, Ideal for collectors of nautical memorabilia, vintage travel trunks, or Dutch colonial trade history. Displays beautifully as a decorative storage chest or conversation piece.
