Rarísima caja de té rectangular de madera de padauk del siglo circa 1800, de forma rectangular, con asa de bronce original en la parte superior. Con divisiones internas, presenta taracea de ébano y padauk en la parte frontal. Reino Unido. 
El padauk es una madera autóctona de las Indias Orientales que se importó a Reino Unido en los SXVIII y SXIX. Material muy caro, su uso se limitó a chapeados, franjas decorativas y muebles similares en cuanto a tamaño al presente objeto. Durante los siglos XVIII y XIX, el té era un bien muy preciado, y la finalidad de una caja de té no era solo conservar y prolongar la vida de las preciadas hojas de té, sino también permitir al propietario guardar bajo llave esas valiosas hojas de té, manteniéndolas a salvo de las posibles manos extraviadas del personal de la casa.
La cerradura no presenta llave. El estado de la caja es bueno, aunque con desgastes comprensibles por la edad (ver imágenes para hacerse una idea adecuada del estado). No hay carcoma. Conserva gran parte del papel forrado interno, que sirve para certificar aún más su edad y procedencia. La parte superior interna está forrado de terciopelo, en buen estado pero con desgaste.
Pieza poco común, elegante y atemporal. 
Mide 18 centímetros de altura, 24,5 de longitud y 13 de anchura. Pesa 825 gramos.
