De Beverpatroelje, getekend door MiTacq en geschreven door Jean-Michel Charlier, verscheen in 1954 in het Journal de Spirou/Robbedoes. MiTacq, geboren in Brussel in 1927, studeerde aan de kunstacademie Saint-Luc en werkte als illustrator voor scoutsmagazines (Plein jeu, Piste, Carrefour). Maar al snel moest hij zijn studie staken om in het schildersbedrijf van zijn familie te gaan werken, een job die hij haatte, zoals hier op de muurschildering te zien is. Daarnaast bleef hij tekenen, en hij deed verschillende voorstellen voor een serie over een scoutspatrouille. Pas in 1953 had hij hier succes mee, toen het agentschap World Press aan uitgeverij Dupuis voorstelde om zijn project te publiceren. De striptekenaar werkte toen samen met de ervaren Luikse scenarist Jean-Michel Charlier. Hun samenwerking duurde tot 1980, met de publicatie van Op zee gevangen in het tijdschrift Robbedoes. MiTacq zette de serie vervolgens alleen voort (soms met hulp van een scenarist) tot 1993.
