Elegant Silver-Plated Coffee Pot – James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, England – 1912

Refined silver-plated coffee pot (or hot water jug) made by the renowned Sheffield silversmiths James Dixon & Sons, one of England’s most respected manufacturers of fine metalware in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The piece features a beautifully fluted cylindrical body with rich engraved foliate decoration and a rococo-style cartouche (blank, suitable for a monogram or dedication). The hinged domed lid is topped with a ribbed finial, and the elegant handle includes ivory-coloured insulating rings for safe handling. This coffee pot represents the refined elegance and high-quality craftsmanship of the Edwardian period, combining functionality with decorative artistry.

Maker’s marks:
Stamped underneath with the James Dixon & Sons hallmark – a trumpet with a banner above the gothic initials “JD&S”, and “EPBM” below, indicating Electro Plated Britannia Metal.
Also marked with the pattern number 5331 and the engraved date 1912.

Very good antique condition. The silver plating is bright and even, with only light surface wear consistent with age. The lid hinge works perfectly. Minor marks on the base (see photos). No dents or major scratches.

Hallmark explanation:
The trumpet with banner and JD&S mark was registered by James Dixon & Sons in 1879 and used throughout the early 20th century. The letters EPBM stand for Electro Plated Britannia Metal, a high-quality silver plating method used by Dixon.
