Biography

He first exhibited at the Promotrice of Fine Arts in Turin in 1920. His first solo exhibition was at the Genova Gallery in Genoa in 1948. Numerous other solo exhibitions followed: among others, at the Cairola Gallery in Milan in 1950, at the Delfino Gallery in Rome in 1953, at the Rotta Gallery in Genoa in 1955, and at Palazzo Rosso in 1961 and 1962, again in Genoa, where the last solo exhibition was set up in 1968 at the Salotto Gallery.
After his death, several posthumous exhibitions were held in Genoa: at the Il Vicolo galleries (1971), Liguria (1972), and Paganelli (1989). He participated in numerous group exhibitions (notably among them a showing of Ligurian painters in Argentina in 1949) and in the most important national awards; notable are his participations in the Rome Quadriennale between 1939 and 1960, and at the Venice Biennale in 1948 and 1950.
With a fundamental departure inspired by nature, understood in a softly clearistic sense, the artist develops and refines their expressive means to arrive at works characterized by a free formal construction, marked by a significant psychological inquiry component.
The privileged subject then becomes the man with his environment, conveyed through an intensified, dense, and material chromaticism, where the depiction of reality appears devoid of sentimental concessions.
