The perfect gift for a Mac fan … FORWORD Please don't make any assumptions, but READ the accompanying text – and look at the photos "very carefully" to avoid disappointments. For your consideration at this wonderful auction is the FIRST FIREWORE-PORT (and hard-to-find) iMac G3 Graphite coloured 466 MHz SE [SPECIAL EDITION] iBook, introduced in July 1999. The Clamshell certainly has a fan-basy. "Jeff Goldblum" (American actor, e.g. the Fly, Jurassic Park,…), was asked if it was possible to fall-in-love with a computer. In a sultry voice, he purred “Oh yes; oooohhh yeeeees.” Following in the footsteps of the iMac models, the iBook was introduced as a low-cost portable Mac for the consumer market (introduced on July 21, 1999). // HERE IS TO THE CRAZY ONES … … the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers,… the ones who see things differently… This one is for the true Apple-fan who wants to add something very special & unique to his/her Collection! You are bidding on a TIME machine, including precious software of yesteryear, ready to use – and to give you a glimp of Apple's history. // iBOOK HISTORY The sleek style and smooth operation of Apple design are what attracted me to Macs when the first iMacs began filling my school’s computer lab. According to Jobs, the iBook G3 CLAMSHELL was a computer designed for consumers and educators. These users had been asking for an “iMac-to-Go,” a computer with the ease of use and approachability found in the iMac G3. Built around a 12.1 inch screen, this new notebook exuded friendliness. It had a comfortable, full-sized keyboard, a CD-ROM drive, USB and 6 hours of battery life. The real story, however, was about "the design" (designed by Jony Ive & his design team). Instead of metal, the iBook was made of durable white translucent plastic coupled with double-injected rubber around the edges for additional durability and color. The curves this rubber formed, coupled with its bright white interior, earned this computer the nickname of “Clamshell.” I think these Macs have more personality than any others. They’re fun and youthful, and proved popular with students and home consumers. It even had a handle! Apple used the first iBook to introduce something brand new to the Mac line: "AirPort wireless networking". The AirPort found in the iBook is primitive compared to today’s, of course (802.11b – it topped out at 11 MBps). And it required an (additional) base station – or other wireless system. While it may not be impressive today, this helped put the iBook on the map. AirPort would quickly spread to other Macs. // WHY BID - BUY? On a technical level, this entire computer is "disassembled, cleaned, checked and assembled again". The computer has been cleaned inside & outside (dust-free). The keyboard has also been completely disassembled and professionally cleaned. This 100 % working, professionally checked “Vintage” bundle includes "tons of pre-installed software*" – like the expensive "Adobe Design Collection" and the "Microsoft Office 2001" suite – ready to use and give you a glimp of the past! I offer Vintage Apple computers as I would buy them myself. My admiration for Steve Jobs' legacy is so great that I want the Macs I sell, to stand "the test of time". Furthermore I only sell items I have "passion" for. – Hardware-wise, all my sold computers are completely disassembled, cleaned – and, if necessary, repaired – in order to extend their lifespan. See pictures. Long-Story Short. Computers from other vendors may look the same on the outside. I can guarantee you that the inside is very different! So if you want to enjoy your investment for as long as possible, choosing "wisely" is advisable. // MAC OS 9: SOME LOVE FOR THE CLASSICS ! Long before the current "macOS" or even before any of the OS X systems, there was Mac OS 9. While not as aesthetically pleasing compared to current day operating systems, Mac OS 9 was sleek, super responsive and a joy to use. In fact. It still is! This iMac comes with a clean install of "System 9.2.2". Thus: "plug-and-play"! // IMPORTANT NOTES The computer (model M6411) works as it should (extensively tested!). This model runs without a fan, the trackpad is smooth and the keyboard is responsive. – The keyboard and trackpad are responsive (no missing "Chicklets"); – The "carrying handle" on the back is intact and works; – The speaker is loud and clear; – The Firewire and USB port(s) work; But … – The DVD-rom drive doesn't work anymore (typical problem for these vintage models). I used an external USB version for the rare occasions I needed a cd/dvd. // BE AWARE – THE BATTERY DOESN'T HOLDS CHARGE After more-then-20-years – the "45 W h LiIon" - battery doesn’t hold a charge anymore. The same holds true dor the clock settings. PS/ iBooks that holds charge after all this time doesn't exist*! Note: the iBook needs to be plug-in (with the special included "YoYo adapter" to get power). // BE AWARE – QWERTY KEYBOARD // NO CRACKS – NOTES ON ESTHETICS There is NOT a single plastic crack see detailed pictures. iBooks often have several cracks (and often the plastic logo or parts are missing). This iBook doesn't miss parts and is in very good shape. Long-story-short: you won't find any iBook in such a good condition! TO SUM UP There are "normal signs of use" (e.g. very tiny scratches and stains … which are to be expected with a device of this age). But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in VERY GOOD condition (not a single crack in the plastic case)! View the numerous images to make your own judgment! Please also have realistic expectations about "speed, etc"! – regarding performance … This is a vintage computer (collectable) – not a modern computer.
