The coin presents emperor Franz Joseph. These trade coins were originally issued for large transactions between neighboring countries at the beginning of the 20th century. The Balkan countries used Austrian ducat coins as gold reserves. It is common knowledge that the various states marked their gold reserves with small countermarks (a sword for Bosnia, a crown for Bulgaria, an ear of grain for Serbia and an eagle for the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes), but these marks are only a designation of a verified touch of the gold and are not "intended to refer to a geographical area".
