Dayak Bogen- und Pfeilset mit verziertem Rattanköcher
Kenyah / Kayan Kultur, Zentral-Kalimantan (Borneo) Indonesien / Malaysia, ca. 1930–1960


Traditionelles Bogen- und Pfeilset der Dayak aus dem Regenwald Borneos, bestehend aus zwei Palmholz-Bögen, mehreren Pfeilen mit Eisenklingen sowie einem kunstvoll verzierten Köcher aus Rattan und rotem Stoff. Die Pfeile zeigen unterschiedliche Spitzenformen für Jagd und Nahverteidigung, teils mit Federstabilisierungen und Rattanwicklungen. Solche Sets wurden sowohl für die Jagd als auch als Status- und Erkennungsobjekte innerhalb der lokalen Kriegergesellschaft getragen.

Einordnung & Bedeutung

Solche Sets wurden bis Mitte des 20. Jh. aktiv im Dschungel genutzt, sowohl zur Jagd (kleine Säuger, Vögel, Reptilien) als auch als Statussymbol eines vollwertigen Mannes innerhalb der Dorfstruktur.

Die Rattan-Flechtmuster haben identitätsstiftende Funktion; Muster können Linie, Clan oder Region anzeigen.
Mit dem Aufkommen von Feuerwaffen ab 1950 verschwanden solche Bogen-Garnituren zunehmend aus dem Alltagsgebrauch.

Provenienz

Aus der Sammlung John Ullmann (Zürich, Schweiz). Ullmann sammelte intensiv Ethnographica und Stammeskunst aus Südostasien, mit Fokus auf Borneo, Sulawesi und Papua-Neuguinea. Das vorliegende Set stammt aus diesem früheren Sammlungskontext, später in einen privaten Schweizer Familienbesitz übergegangen.
