Hardback in the publisher's original half cream cloth covers, gilt lettering to the cover and spine, deep burgundy cloth sides, and top edge gilt. Limited to 200 numbered copies, signed by the publishers, this being No. 58. Beautifully illustrated showcase of Almack’s library which was particularly rich in 17th-century English books and manuscripts, with a colour frontispiece, numerous facsimiles, and 53 plates (some coloured and heightened in gold). Rubbing, bumping, soiling, and wear to the boards and spine. The edges of the boards are a bit bent. Library sticker at the bottom of the spine and remnants of a sticker on the top right of the cover board. Library sticker, library stamp with pen markings, and pencil markings on the pastedown endpaper. Library stamp and pen markings on the half title. 2 library stamps (one crossed out) with pen and pencil markings on the title page. Blank insertion sticker on the back pastedown endpaper. Some plates have some small tears at the edges, not affecting the illustrations. Some browning, spotting, and offsetting of the illustrations throughout. The text and illustrations are clear, and the binding is solid. Overall, a nice copy in good- condition.
