You are bidding on a very fine old french 4/4 violin, stamped and labeled F.Breton brevete de S M G Me la Duchesse d' Angouleme a Mirecourt 1829? Breton. The instrument is in ready to play condition with some tears, wears and small repaired cracks on top. New boxwood set up and new strings.
The violin has an excellent straight high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of softly flamed maple with matched sides and scroll. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The original varnish of golden amber color remains in good condition. The whole length of the violin is 586 mm and the back 355 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 164 mm; middle bouts: 111 mm; lower bouts: 205 mm. The sound of this instrument is of a charming character, rich, warm, sweet and beautiful colors, depth and great carrying power. Don't hesitate to contact me for any questions.
