Quest'opera raffigura uno degli iconici manichini metafisici di De Chirico, figura enigmatica e senza volto che incarna il trovatore del titolo. Il personaggio, con la caratteristica testa ovale liscia e il corpo scultoreo, è circondato da una complessa architettura scenografica in giallo ocra: strutture geometriche, volute decorative e elementi che evocano un palcoscenico medievale o una città fantastica.
La composizione unisce il tema del manichino - presenza umana spogliata di identità - con l'universo della musica e della poesia itinerante. Il contrasto cromatico tra il nero profondo del corpo, il bianco della testa e le strutture dorate crea un'atmosfera di mistero sospeso, tipica della poetica metafisica dell'artista.
