Passport-Amulett, a round leather base featuring bone masks (10 cm and 6 cm) and 48 Kauris, with origin in DR Kongo, belonging to the Lega, provenance Auktionshaus, and a diameter of 21 cm dating to the late 20th century.
Description from the seller
An offer is a rare Passport amulet that was worn by a dignitary. The round base was made of leather and on it are one larger and four small Passport masks carved from bone (10 cm / 6 cm). In addition, 48 kauris. Diameter: 21 cm.
The offered amulet comes from the Reinhold Kasten collection and was 'acquired' by him on one of his numerous journeys. As one of the great explorers of the previous century, he traveled 42 times around the world and his path led him 24 times through the Bermuda Triangle, 20 times around Cape Horn and 18 times through the Magellan Strait. From his journeys he brought a total of about 8,000 objects, and in 2002 in Warnemünde an exhibition with the items was opened. Financial reasons led in 2009 to the dissolution of the collection, and a portion of it was auctioned in spring 2010 through the Schopmann Auction House in Hamburg, shortly before the company had to file for insolvency.
Reinhold Kasten died in 2011 at the age of 91.
