Sony - TA-F5000 Solid state integrated amplifier

A compact integrated amplifier meticulously crafted for sound quality, operability, and finish. The power supply section features a toroidal transformer co-developed with a transformer manufacturer. This transformer employs an elliptical core cross-section instead of the typical square shape, increasing wire winding tension and reducing vibration to less than one-fourth of conventional levels. This achieves a compact power supply section with superior sound quality. Furthermore, it employs an S.T.D. power supply that independently supplies power to the preamp section (voltage amplification stage), which handles small signals, and the power section (power amplification stage), which handles large signals. This method separates and isolates the rectifier circuits, preventing voltage fluctuations in the power section from affecting the preamp section even during high output. This also provides high drive capability for low-impedance speakers. MOS-FETs are employed in both the drive stage and final stage of the power section. MOS-FETs feature high input impedance, enabling electrical isolation from preceding stages and reducing susceptibility to noise current ingress. They also exhibit low levels of audibly noticeable odd-order distortion, delivering smooth sound quality. Furthermore, the power stage employs a single push-pull configuration with minimal crossover distortion. Leveraging the MOS-FET's inherent stability against thermal fluctuations, a fixed optical bias circuit is adopted, effectively maintaining a constant current value. This ensures stable operation of the output stage. The power transistors are directly mounted onto a robustly constructed chassis, effectively suppressing vibration while eliminating the need for large, space-consuming heat sinks. The chassis employs a monobox structure, combining aluminum and steel with sufficient thickness and strength to achieve high rigidity. The TA-F5000 further gains damping effects by combining aluminum and steel—materials with different natural frequencies—to cancel mutual resonance. The front panel utilizes aluminum material approximately 10mm thick. The feet employ eccentric insulators that resist external vibrations without creating sharp peaks. The tone and balance circuits employ a center-defeat volume control of the same grade as the master volume. This volume control disconnects both the tone control circuit and the balance circuit from the signal path when the knob is centered. This eliminates unnecessary circuitry and the switch itself, resulting in purer sound quality. High-quality components, rigorously selected for their sonic characteristics, are used for resistors, capacitors, and other parts. A noise-cut input selector is employed for input switching. This system uses relays to isolate the input of any unselected source component, eliminating crosstalk between sources. A CR-NF type phono equalizer amplifier is used. A head amplifier for MC cartridges is also included. Pre-out output terminals are provided.
