Have you heard of the manufacturer FIDELIX? It's a domestic brand that's particularly well-regarded among those with long experience in audio, and especially among enthusiasts interested in analog accessories.

Founded in 1976 by Shin Nakagawa, who left Sony and STAX to start his own company at age 27. This was around the time Mark Levinson's low-noise headphone amplifier, the JC-1, was gaining attention. FIDELIX's debut product was the low-noise MC headphone amplifier, the LN-1.

Subsequently, they released preamplifiers and power amplifiers as well. Many of their products were quite niche, limiting their appeal primarily to a core group of enthusiasts at the time.

The product that truly spread the name FIDELIX widely among audiophiles was the Natural Spectrum Harmonizer "SH-20K," released in 1994.

SH-20K

This device, inserted between a CD player and amplifier, restored frequencies above 20kHz that had been discarded during CD mastering. It became a massive hit. Sales at Kawaguchi Wireless, where I worked at the time, ultimately reached several hundred units.

Though over a decade had passed since the CD's debut, its reputation for sounding "cold," "hard," and "harsh" persisted. Dissatisfaction with CD sound and its popularity were beginning to wane. That's when the SH-20K appeared, and many audiophiles jumped at it.

Its principle involved adding a simulated 20kHz signal (essentially noise) synchronized with the music. Even without understanding the theory, everyone was amazed by its effect.

By adding components above 20kHz, the sound of CDs becomes more natural. This creates a gentle, pleasant sound that is easy on the ears even during extended listening.
