Beautiful "PERU" vase by Val Saint Lambert in doubled (clear and prune coloured) diamond cut lead crystal. This vase is blown with clear crystal, after which a layer of brown-prune crystal is applied, which is then ground back to create the final design. It is quite a task to cut away almost the entire layer of prune-coloured crystal, leaving only the bands in this colour. Prune (or plum-colored) is one of the rarest colours used by Val Saint Lambert. This factory uses high lead crystal with at least 33% lead oxide, much more than the legally required 24%. This process allows the crystal to be worked more finely as well as  enhancing the brilliance and clarity.

The PERU vase was designed by Charles Graffart in 1958 and incorporates three separate patterns for which three different techniques are used. The lower band is engraved with fine horizontal lines which reflect brilliantly around the base, the middle section has a lovely diamond cut pattern, always catching the light and the top of the vase is finished with twelve graceful faceted panels.  The vase is in almost MINT condition with only very slight scratching on the base due to movement. The base is signed "Val St. Lambert" and is featured in the Val St. Lambert 1958 catalogue.
