Description from the seller

The offered Mercedes-Benz SL 500 belongs to the final years of the R129 model's production – the generation that defined the concept of a luxury roadster in the 90s. This example combines a classic body line with modern comfort and a reliable V8 engine with a capacity of 4,966 cc and 306 HP.

The car was manufactured in 1998 and originally delivered to the American market. It arrived in Poland a few years ago, where it underwent a series of restoration and servicing works. After import, a new paint coat was applied, and a comprehensive review of the roof mechanism was performed. Before sale, the car underwent a full oil service and is currently ready for trouble-free use.

Body and paint:

The body presents very well — the body lines are straight, and the panels are aligned according to factory standards. The car has received a new paint coating that looks fresh, with a deep gloss and no visible scratches or chips. There are no signs of corrosion or previous body repairs.
All rubber seals and plastic components have retained their flexibility and good appearance. The headlights, turn signals, and rear lamps are clean, without cracks or fogging. The fabric roof is functional, watertight, and has been previously serviced – it opens and closes smoothly. The rims are complete and in good visual condition.

Technical condition:

Under the hood, a well-known and valued V8 M119 engine with 306 HP operates, providing smooth and dynamic driving. The powertrain starts without any issues, runs evenly, and shows no leaks. The automatic transmission shifts gears smoothly and without jerks.
The suspension maintains the appropriate stiffness, does not produce unwanted noises, and the braking system functions effectively. The car has been used occasionally and regularly serviced, so it requires no financial investment. Currently, the car handles confidently, quietly, and comfortably.

Interior

The cabin retains the typical Mercedes R129 atmosphere – an elegant combination of wood, leather, and sturdy materials. The upholstery is original, in good condition, with a delicate patina on the driver's seat, without cracks or abrasions. The dashboard and door panels are clean, undamaged, and the wooden elements have retained their gloss.
All electrical devices – windows, mirrors, air conditioning, radio, gauges, and lighting – are functioning properly. The interior is well-maintained, with no signs of moisture or excessive wear beyond normal.

Documentation

The car has a Polish registration certificate, valid technical inspection, and third-party liability insurance. Supporting documents confirming completed service work and invoices are included. The Mercedes is registered in Poland and ready to drive.

A well-maintained Mercedes-Benz SL 500 (R129) from 1998 is an excellent example of a classic Mercedes roadster from the late 20th century – a powerful V8 engine, automatic transmission, and a comfortable character make it both a collector's car and a fun convertible for everyday driving. The vehicle is in very good technical and visual condition, ready for immediate use.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
