Northwest Africa 17584 (NWA 17584) Purchased: 2025 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3-6) History: Purchased by Mohamed Ali Loud in 2025 from a meteorite dealer in Mauritania. Physical characteristics: Several brownish fragments some of which covered with minor fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a brownish interior and is composed of up to 5 mm sized mostly angular type 3, 6, and black melt clasts in type 3 matrix. Chondrules in type 3 lithologies have an apparent average diameter of about 450 µm; olivine and low-Ca pyroxene are compositionally unequilibrated. In type 6 clasts, ferroan olivine, diopside, and sodic plagioclase are the predominant mineral phases. Opaques phases are troilite, pentlandite, and Ti-bearing chromite; no metal detected.
