L’opera appartiene al genere della letteratura morale e pedagogica francese del XVII secolo, periodo in cui erano particolarmente diffusi testi concepiti come dialoghi o colloqui educativi. Il contenuto riguarda l’intenzione dell’autore di guidare il giovane lettore — rappresentato nella figura del figlio — nell’arte del comportamento sociale, della prudenza e della virtù quotidiana.
L’opera è suddivisa in “entretiens”, ovvero conversazioni o lezioni, che trattano temi di etica pratica, autocontrollo, buone maniere e formazione del carattere, secondo lo stile moraleggiante della Francia del Grand Siècle.
Oggi rappresenta un interessante esempio di pedagogia seicentesca e un prezioso documento bibliografico, sia per la sua veste tipografica sia per il suo valore culturale nella storia dell’educazione francese.

Legatura in buono stato, il frontespizio risulta restaurato e sull’antiporta, qualche brunitura ma in buone condizioni.
