Scenery“ is a collection of works by Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, who since the 1970s has established his own style of ”personal photography" and has earned international acclaim as one of Japan's leading photographers by sharply focusing on eros, life and death, love, and everyday life. This book, “Landscape,” was published by Intermedia Publishing in 2002, and while the subject is the female nude, the composition is characterized by its emphasis on the “landscape,” which is the unity of the subject and its surrounding space. The photographs, in which light and shadow, body and background, and even signs of time are captured, show the maturity of Araki's sensibility, and are filled with a sensual yet poetic serenity. Unlike the impulsive works of his early years, this book is impressive for its gaze that seems to sink into the interior, and it is one of Araki's most profound and lingering works.
