Description from the seller

Shepard Fairey - Make Art Not War Edition 2020

Edition in very good condition, close to excellent.

Published in 2020 edition, very rare to purchase.

91 x 61 cm

Offset poster on thick cream Speckle Tone paper. Signed by Shepard Fairey. Open edition.

Original photos of the artwork for sale. Artwork stored flat in a plastic sleeve within a professional binder and in a non-smoking area.

This print, created during the Iraq war, offers an alternative to the famous pacifist slogan of the 1960s: 'Make love, not war.' In this case, Fairey emphasizes the need to act creatively rather than destructively. The Art Nouveau style of the image also references the influence of this artistic movement on the hippie and psychedelic art of the 1960s, notably in many posters against the Vietnam War.

Enclosed within a floral garland, the female figure appears more confident and real than vaporous. The presence of two brushes placed beneath her portrait not only references traditional artistic tools but also evokes lances. Coupled with the injunction 'OBEY' inscribed on her neck, this staging gives this seemingly gentle message a more incisive impact. - Shepard

Carefully packaged in a sturdy tube and shipped with tracking number.

Shepard Fairey (Obey) is one of the major artists of contemporary street art. His powerful graphic style, blending visual propaganda and social engagement, has marked global urban art. Fairey shares artistic and thematic proximity with figures such as Banksy, Invader, Vhils, Blek le Rat, PichiAvo, C215, or Seen, all recognized for their decisive influence on urban culture and the evolution of contemporary art.

Keywords: André Saraiva, Ai Weiwei, Basquiat, Blek Le Rat, Bertjan Pot, Brusk, Banksy, C215, Cartier, Christo, Dface, Dior, Daniel Arsham, Ed Rusha, Herman Miller, Hockney, Imbue, Invader, JR, JonOne, Jeff Koons, KAWS, Keith Haring, Liechtenstein, Mr Brainwash, Murakami, Doodle, Orlinski, Parra, PichiAvo, Pez, Sandra Chevrier, Snik, Tracey Emin, Virgil Abloh, Vhils, Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara.
