Quran. Sultanate India, an illustrated Arabic leaf by Abdullah at-Khadim, dated 1616, from Meccan Chapter 6 Al‑Anam verses 94–96, one page, 22 cm by 17.5 cm, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
This illustrated leaf is from the Holy book scribed by Abdullah at-Khadim in AD1616. It is in v very good condition, with colouration unspoiled over time and no water damage or devotional use marks often associated with manuscripts of this age.
The leaf is from the Meccan Chapter 6, Al-Annan, (Cattle) v.94-96 which describe the Day of Resurrection, God's power as the Creator, and signs in the natural world.
Verse 94: "And [ behold! ] you have certainly come to Us alone as We created you the first time, and you have left whatever We bestowed upon you behind you. And We do not see with you your 'intercessors' which you claimed that they were among you associates [of Allah]. It has [all] been severed between you, and lost from you is what you used to claim."
Verse 95: "Indeed, Allah is the cleaver of grain and date seeds. He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living. That is Allah; so how are you deluded?"
Verse 96: "[He is the] Cleaver of the daybreak and made the night for rest and the sun and the moon for reckoning. That is the ordaining of the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing."
The format is very typical of a Sultanate India Koran of the early period with expansive headings and large script in fine hand. In this case, there are three large headings in Muhaqqaq, dividing the two sections of scripture. Attractive marginals mark key chapter divisions.
