Philips Saturn 563 (BD563A) – 1956/57

Beautiful mid-century Philips flagship – fully checked & serviced

This is a well-preserved example of the Philips Saturn 563, one of the higher-end table radios of the mid-1950s. The wooden cabinet still presents very nicely, with a deep gloss and elegant veneer lines typical of Philips’ premium series.

Cosmetic Condition

The overall appearance is very good, with only light signs of aging.
Some very fine surface scratches are present, but they are only visible from certain angles when direct light hits the surface and are therefore extremely difficult (almost impossible) to capture in photos.
No cracks, no missing parts, and the dial glass and lettering are clean and complete.

Technical Condition

Fully tested and working reliably.
The chassis was carefully checked and serviced:
	•	Almost all paper capacitors have been replaced with modern high-quality equivalents for long-term stability.
	•	All tubes checked — strong emission.
	•	Reception on FM is excellent for a set of this age, and AM bands operate normally (where available).
	•	Mechanisms, pushbuttons and controls cleaned and operating smoothly.
	•	Original rotating ferrite antenna works perfectly.

This radio is ready for daily listening and safe operation under normal use.
