Labelled Stradivarius - 4/4 - - Violin

German Violin, Stradivarius Model – 4/4 Size 1. Introduction A fine full-size German violin, Stradivarius model, crafted in the mid-20th century in the traditional workshop style. This instrument follows the classical proportions of Antonio Stradivari’s 17th-century pattern, known for its refined arching and elegant tonal balance. 2. Historical and Artistic Context Throughout the 20th century, many German ateliers produced faithful Stradivarius-model violins intended for advanced students and orchestral musicians. This violin exemplifies that tradition, combining sturdy German craftsmanship with an attractive red-brown varnish reminiscent of the Cremonese masters. 3. Craftsmanship and Materials Built with a finely grained spruce top and a two-piece flamed maple back, the violin displays well-executed edgework and clean purfling. The transparent reddish-brown varnish highlights the natural figure of the maple. Ebony fittings—including pegs, fingerboard, and Guarneri-style chinrest—complete its traditional appearance. 4. Tonal Character and Playability The instrument offers a broad, warm tone with clear projection and balanced response. It has the characteristic resonance of mid-century German violins, suitable for both ensemble and solo use once properly set up. 5. Condition • Bridge: Original, in good and stable condition. • Soundpost: Not currently fitted; professional installation required. • Strings: Used but serviceable set installed. • Case: Included, old but functional wooden case. • Label: A printed interior label reads “Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 16–”, typical of workshop instruments from Germany. Measurements • Total length: 60 cm • Body length: 36 cm • Upper bout: 18 cm • Middle bout: 11.5 cm • Lower bout: 20 cm 7.
