The Sheaffer Balance Lifetime 875 fountain pen, made in Fort Madison in the late 1930s to early 1940s, features a solid celluloid body with a 14K nib and a functional plunger filler for discerning collectors.
Description from the seller
This Sheaffer Balance 'Lifetime' 875 fountain pen, manufactured in Fort Madison (Iowa, USA) between the late 1930s and early 1940s, is presented in a very solid and attractive condition, considering its age and its construction in striped celluloid.
The body and cap in Grey Pearl/Black celluloid maintain a uniform shine, with well-defined transparency and veins. No cracks, deformations, or severe darkening of the material are observed, which is especially appreciated by collectors of this series. The celluloid shows only light and normal signs of use for a piece over 80 years old.
The metal band of the cap and the clip show superficial wear and micro-scratches, characteristic of the original nickel plating from the period. Despite the visual wear, the set retains its integrity, the clip maintains its proper tension, and the cap closure remains firm.
The Sheaffer Lifetime 14K nib is kept in excellent condition, with the engravings deeply defined and no signs of torsion or damage on the tip. The feed and section show proper fit and no visible defective elements.
The plunger/jeringa filling system is present and complete. This mechanism, known for its smooth operation and superior loading capacity, appears visually functional; however, the internal condition of the seal may require inspection according to the future owner's preferences. The mechanism operates without looseness or structural damage.
The engravings on the body — 'W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co., Fort Madison, Iowa, U.S.A.' — remain sharp and fully legible. The code 875 also remains visible, confirming its authenticity as an example from the high-end Balance line.
Overall, this piece offers an ideal balance between good aesthetic condition, structural integrity, functioning of the loading system, and historical appeal, making it a highly collectible, functional, and representative fountain pen of Sheaffer's golden era.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
