Val Saint Lambert crystal vase, model Méduse, blue gradient from cobalt to light blue, height 33 cm, width 9.5 cm, depth 33 cm, diameter 9.5 cm, weight 1650 g, produced in Belgium (Wallonie) by Val Saint Lambert, circa 1950–1960, in good condition with minor nicks on the raised twisted areas and interior water signs, unsigned.
Description from the seller
This Val Saint Lambert crystal vase, model 'Medusa' listed in the 1957 American catalog, perfectly illustrates the sculptural elegance developed by the crystal manufacturer during the post-war period. From the same family of shapes as the 'Torsade' models, it belongs to this generation of pieces with flowing and dynamic lines, designed to highlight the colorful transparency of VSL crystal.
The vase features a slender silhouette in the shape of a twisted drop, resting on a soft, slightly twisted triangular base. The walls, a gradient of blue ranging from cobalt to a light internal blue, seem animated with fluid movements: three large veins spiral upward from the base, accompanying the rise of the crystal to a trilobed opening with rounded, almost undulating lips. These controlled deformations, typical of the collection, create internal and external light play that enhances the depth of the color and gives the whole a very organic vibration, reminiscent of a jellyfish in suspension.
The condition of the vase is good: the piece shows no chips or cracks and retains a beautiful overall shine. However, several small scattered scratches are noted, mainly on the most prominent areas of the twisted decor. Water level traces are also visible inside. The vase is unsigned, which is consistent with many Val Saint Lambert productions intended for the American market during this period.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Val Saint Lambert explored a resolutely modern formal language, driven by reconstruction and a desire for aesthetic renewal. The catalogs aimed at the United States, bolder in their shapes and colors, constitute an important part of this internationally oriented production. These blown and hot-shaped pieces demonstrate the craftsmanship of the house's master glassmakers, capable of combining technical virtuosity, crystal thickness, and freedom of movement to create vibrant and decidedly contemporary silhouettes.
The dimensions are:
Height: 33 centimeters.
Width: 9.5 centimeters.
Weight: 1650 grams.
The vase will be carefully packed and shipped quickly in a secure manner. On-site pickup and grouped delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
