Parker Sonnet in chiselled tartan with gold plated trim and an 18k nib, a premium late twentieth century fountain pen built for quality.
Description from the seller
Parker Sonnet Chiselled Tartan Fountain Pen (2002) - Silverplate GT
As New. Never Used. Never Inked
The Parker Sonnet is a long-standing premium line from Parker, introduced in the mid-1990s to succeed the Parker 75.
The “Chiselled Tartan” finish was one of the more decorative metal patterns Parker offered. It consists of a deeply etched (chiselled) plaid / tartan design on the cap and barrel.
The “GT” designation means "Gold Trim" — in this context, gold-plated accents (clip, cap band, other trim) complementing the silver-tone body.
This is typically “modern” Parker fountain
The finishing is quite refined: in earlier catalog descriptions, Parker describes a “precisely chiselled ‘ciselé’ pattern … filled with a black resin coating on a silver base.
According to Parker’s own catalogs, the Sonnet line (in its premium metal finishes) is hand-assembled, carefully inspected, and built for quality.
Construction & Materials
Body & Cap: The “Chiselled Tartan” design is etched into a plated metal body. Some sources suggest the base metal is brass with plating.
Plating: The silver-tone finish is likely a silver plate (or rhodium-like plating), not necessarily solid sterling silver.
Trim: Gold-plated trim (GT) — clip, cap band, possibly section ring.
Nib: For the fountain pen version, an 18k solid gold nib is typical in these high-end Sonnets. The 18k gold nib in the fountain version is typically praised for smoothness and a certain springiness.
Assembly: Parker notes that Sonnet pens are composed of a significant number of pieces (some sources mention 17) which are hand-assembled and inspected.
Fountain Pen: With 18k gold nib, cartridge/converter filling system.
Stylish and distinctive finish — the tartan (plaid) chiselled pattern is eye-catching and elegant.
Premium materials (gold nib, plated metal body) make it feel substantial and high-quality.
Part of the Sonnet “premium” range — more collectible than entry-level pens.
