Rare Art Deco porcelain figurine of a “Reclining Leopard”, originally German titled “Liegender Leopard”, made by Rosenthal Art Department, in excellent condition. It depicts a beautiful Reclining Leopard looking to the side, under-glazed hand painted with spots, in a tense crouching position, ready to attack. German porcelain manufactory Rosenthal was originally founded as a ceramics-painting studio by Philipp Rosenthal Sr. (1855-1937) in 1879 at Schloss Erkersreuth in Bavaria, near the Czech border. In 1910, Rosenthal opened its own Art department in Selb Bavaria for the production of porcelain figures emphasises the high standard.  Until that time, an Art Department was a privilege reserved for royal factories. It is in excellent condition, marked with Rosenthal Selb Art Department mark of the period, hand made (handgemalt), beautifully sculpted and glazed, impressed numbered #1601, NO chips, NO cracks and NO repairs, please see the pictures as they are part of description.
