Russian lacquered box or case – Hand-painted papier-mâché – 19th century



Description :

Rare Russian box/case of oval shape with rounded ends, hand-decorated in the refined style of the Fedoskino school, active in the 19th century.
Origin: Russia, Fedoskino school? No visible signature.
• Period: 19th century (circa 1830–1870)
Technique: Oil painting on lacquered papier-mâché.
• Dimensions: about 14 cm x 7.5 cm
Motifs:
Portrait of an elegant woman holding a basket of flowers.
Verso: Romantic scene of a couple embracing near classical architecture.
Colors: A soft and nuanced palette, typical of Fedoskino.



State:

Good overall condition considering its age.
Visible wear on the edges
Some surface cracks and small missing areas in the varnish.
Slightly deformed structure, but functional closure.
