AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

You encounter them more often in life. People who are loved to the point of absurdity and hated to the very core of their being. Adriaan van Dis is such a figure. There is no middle ground. To start with 'the haters': they will, among other things, refer to the fact that Van Dis almost verbatim copied three passages from the novel From Heaven Lake: travels through Sinkiang and Tibet by the Indian author Vikram Seth in his book Een barbaar in China (this edition in its 10th printing!). And this was not the only time Van Dis played the copycat. For 'the Van Dis fans,' led by, among others, former NRC editor-in-chief André Spoor, this is all nonsense.
A more interesting question is whether Van Dis would have sold as many books if he had never been on television. Asking the question is answering it.
Are you a hater or a lover? After reading the books in this lot, that should be clear.
