Size specifications.
Approximately 28.5 x 19.4 x 2.8 cm
The icon depicts Christus Pantokrator ('Ruler of all') – one of the most significant and oldest representations in Christian icon painting. The present Christus icon was carefully hand-painted on fabric and wood in traditional Macedonian style using egg tempera and real gold leaf, and artistically framed with a deeply carved relief. It is of Macedonian origin from Meteora. Archaeological legislation permits its export.
The motif is classic.
Jesus Christ with a blessing right hand and an ornate Gospel book in the left. The golden background and the fine lines on the face give the image a powerful spiritual presence. Breathtaking.
The icon is labeled and in good condition for its age, with a few minor flaws such as paint chips, slight wear, and craquelure. Fine painting by hand on fabric and old wood, intricately and meticulously executed.
