Herend - Coffee service (5) - Herend (Early) Rothschild Pattern Two-Person Coffee Set – Pre-1940 - Porcelain

Herend (Early) Rothschild Pattern Two-Person Coffee Set – Pre-1940 This exquisite porcelain coffee set features the early version of the Rothschild pattern, crafted by Herend before 1940. Originally introduced in 1850, the Rothschild design was later refined for the Rothschild family, incorporating birds to illustrate a charming tale: Baroness Rothschild lost her necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. One evening, she saw the missing necklace dangling between the branches—playfully entangled by two colorful birds. This story became immortalized in Herend porcelain and is widely regarded as a masterpiece of hand-painted design. This early version predates the addition of birds and trees. Instead, it features finely detailed butterflies and insects in soft pastel tones, alongside peonies reminiscent of the classic Victoria pattern—all hand-painted by skilled artisans. The scalloped edges are delicately trimmed with 24-carat gold. Made in Hungary by Herend Porcelain Manufactory before 1940. Condition: Very good overall. One minor flaw: a small chip on the inside of the coffee pot lid (see last photo). This does not affect the appearance or value, as it is invisible when the lid is in place. Dimensions: • Coffee pot: 21 × 17.5 × 11 cm • Cup: 4.5 × 9 × 7.5 cm • Saucer: Ø 11.5 cm From a private collection. The photos form part of the description. Securely packed and shipped with tracking. Multiple items can be combined in one parcel if compatible and within postal weight limits.
