Muslim Prayers - Kashmir, author unknown, a single illuminated Arabic leaf from a late 18th‑century Kashmir prayer book, 13 cm high by 6.5 cm wide, 1 page, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
A fine illuminated leaf, from a miniature prayer book scribed in Kashmir in the late C18th. The manuscript has a wonderful headpiece in the shape of a rising sun in gold with arabesque decoration. The script itself is within diagonal interlocking panels written in black and red nashki, each pillowed with gold. There is a floral red and gold flower framing device around the script, itself bound within gold and blue frame lines. The specific style is often associated with Ottoman or Safavid artistry known for its high level of detail and craftsmanship.
The condition is really very good, the colours are vibrant and there is minimal scuffing or devotional use. We expect this was from an important persons individual prayer book that travelled around with them.
Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing.
Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
