Porcelain box from Germany, dating to ca. 1850–1900, hand-painted porcelain.
Description from the seller
Advertisement – 19th-century porcelain box with hand-painted insects – Europe – circa 1850–1900
Charming and rare 19th-century porcelain box, richly decorated with a large number of hand-painted insects: beetles, flies, butterflies, ants, and other colorful creatures.
This type of decor — playful, detailed, and almost entomological — is typical of European porcelain from the second half of the 19th century, with influences from Viennese and German insect decor.
The box is octagonal in shape, with warm coral-red edges and a beautifully shaped knob in a deep pink shade. The interior and bottom show clear signs of age, consistent with an authentic 19th-century piece.
Features
Origin: Europe (possibly Austria, Germany, or France)
Period: circa 1850–1900
Material: porcelain, hand-painted
Decor: Polychrome insect decor with a coral-red edge.
