GENERAL INFORMATION
Few wineries in the world can boast such a rich and vibrant history as Montecillo. Their wines are always a guarantee of success at Vinoselección. For this reunion with the century-old brand, we’ve selected none other than a Gran Reserva from a legendary vintage in modern Rioja history: 2011. Montecillo Gran Reserva 2011 is made primarily from Tempranillo with a touch of Graciano. The grapes come from bush-trained vines over 35 years old, located in the Rioja Alta subregion. A long aging process of 28 months in French oak barrels, followed by at least 5 years of bottle aging in underground cellars, shapes an elegant and complex wine.
Founded in 1874 by Celestino Navajas, Bodegas Montecillo is located in the heart of Rioja Alta, in Fuenmayor. A heroic survivor across three different centuries, its excellence is the key to its strong position in the Spanish market. The selection of the finest Rioja grapes is the cornerstone of its philosophy. It also stands out for its mastery of long aging processes. Montecillo has an underground cellar where its wines mature under ideal conditions.
