One 800‑silver millesimal fineness box from Central Europe, dating to about 1890–1900, with a relief of two cherubs and a vermeil interior, measuring 6 cm wide, 6.5 cm deep and 1.5 cm high, and weighing 52 g in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Box or case of 800 silver with angels in relief – Central Europe, ca. 1900–1930
Delicate solid silver box finely wrought with a relief depiction of two cherubs or little angels, a motif very popular in European goldsmithing at the beginning of the 20th century, inspired by Renaissance and Baroque art.
The scene shows two putti with sweet expressions and childlike gestures, modeled with great sensitivity and depth, framed by a decorative band with the initials engraved “A.M.”.
The interior features a fine gold plating (vermeil), characteristic of high-quality pieces designed to protect silver and highlight the contrast with the exterior.
On the base is the “800” mark, certifying its composition as 800‑thousandths silver, traditionally used in Germany, Austria, or Italy in the early 20th century. Based on its style and workmanship, the piece can be attributed to a Central European goldsmithing workshop of that period.
