【Product details】
A set of three early Meiji period iron lanterns, each constructed with hand-forged metal frames and paper panels, embodying the rustic charm of traditional Japanese outdoor lighting. These lanterns, originally used as roji-andon for garden paths or tea ceremony approaches, carry the quiet atmosphere of aged metal, worn surfaces, and time-softened textures.
The left lantern features a hook at the top that can be extended, bringing the total height to 50.5 cm. The door is slightly warped, making the clasp a little difficult to secure. Scratches, rust, surface wear and tears to the paper are visible.
The centre lantern includes a decorative cicada detail on the door—a motif symbolising rebirth, summer, and the passage of time. Age-related wear, scratches and rust are present.
The right lantern shows the most noticeable damage, including a missing clasp, deformation, areas of corrosion lifting from the surface, losses to the wooden base, scratches and tears to the paper, and stains. Please review the photos for condition details.
The cardboard box shown will be used for packing and shipping.
Dimensions of left lantern: approx. H 32.5 cm W 14.2 cm D 15 cm
Dimensions of centre lantern: approx. H 36 cm W 15.7 cm D 16 cm
Dimensions of right lantern: approx. H 28 cm W 13.5 cm D 14.5 cm
