Natural PGE and minerals alloys
Lode mining for Platinum-Group Elements (PGEs) involves extracting these minerals from solid rock deposits, such as those found in veins or fractures. The process is challenging because PGEs are often found a very fine inclusions within other minerals like chromite or base metal sulfides (BMS), requiring complex beneficiation and extraction methods like pre-concentration and specialized chemical leaching. Thes lode deposits are the primary source for PGEs like platinum, palladium, and rhodium.
Lode PGE (platinum-group element) deposits are mineral deposits of platinum-group elements found in veins or fissures within rock formations. These deposits form through various geological processes, including magmatic-hydrothermal activity in layered intrusions or as hydrothermal deposits in fault zones.
Non magnetic.
Tested with hydrogen peroxide, an immediate reaction is catalyzed.
Natural platinum has a Mohs hardness of 4-5, making it moderately fragile.
