Bookends - Gilt wood - Baroque altar lectern

Stylistic description
Probable epoch: late 18th – early 19th century (late Baroque / Rococo, with still marginal neoclassical influences).
• Material: softwood (probably poplar or linden) with mission or guazzo gilding on bolo, and darkened parts.
• Working: hand carving with scroll motifs, acanthus leaves, shells, and curls typical of the sacred Rococo style.
Plain and unadorned, indicating it was meant to be placed on an altar or liturgical table, not viewed from behind.
Wide and tiltable base, suitable for supporting heavy messali or antifonaries.

Conditions

Well-preserved, with an authentic patina and only wear consistent with its age (some abrasions, worn gilding, but no visible invasive restoration).
This increases the value for a collector, as the original patina is highly sought after.
